Below is a letter from F Douglas and A Mulligan, sent to parents on 10th December 2020 regarding school holidays.
We were scheduled to finish our school term on Tuesday December 22nd at noon. These plans were made many months ago before the ongoing impact of COVID was felt in our community. We all agree that this has and continues to be, an exceptional year.
There has been much talk in the media about when schools will close to allow families to come together safely at Christmas. The Minister of Education wrote to all schools on Tuesday, stating that there are no plans to extend the Christmas holidays by the Department of Education. However, we are very conscious that many parents are becoming increasingly anxious and are expressing their desire for the term to be over sooner rather than later.
We are limited in what we are able to do to address this but having considered all options we have decided to close school for all pupils on Friday December 18th, at the normal staggered finish times. The return date to school continues to be Wednesday January 6th at the staggered arrival times.
In order to do this, we are making changes to the school calendar and will now be open on both March 17th (12 noon finish) and May 4th, 2021.
For those families who have decided that their children will finish school before December 18th, and who have not been told to isolate by PHA, unfortunately school work will not be provided. This is due to the fact that teachers will be continuing to fulfil their normal teaching commitment as school will be open as usual.
Throughout this year we have endeavoured to look after the health and well-being of every member of our school community and as you can imagine this has not been an easy task. The work of all our staff, the support of parents and the resilience of pupils has been outstanding and will carry us into 2021.
Thank you again for your continued support.
